Research
Two questions drive my work:
How societies achieve transformation that is economically dynamic, socially just, politically democratic, and ecologically sustainable.
How actors (firms, states, civil society, communities) build capabilities and power to create, contest, and redirect these transformations.
Resources, development, sustainable transformation
How resource-rich but economically poorer countries and communities can move beyond extraction. How the world economy can break with the unequal relationships that have organised extraction for centuries.
Current projects: criticas minerals and development · policies for adding value · geopolitics of supply chains · civic power in mineral-rich regions · end use governance

Technologies, innovation and development
How countries and actors build the capabilities to produce and access what they need in medicines, seeds, and other mission-critical technologies, and what makes those systems dynamic, resilient, inclusive, and scalable.
Current focus: vaccines and biologics · seed systems and agrifood transformation
